Posted by Theresa Goiffon on Monday, February 29, 2016, In : Helpful Tips
Many people contact me inquiring about what kind of grooming supplies I recommend. Here is a list of some basic tools that I recommend. Some items specifically the scissors and blending sheers I have not used that brand so I can not personally attest to them but they appear to be decent based on the price.

Hope this is helpful.

Here is a list of grooming supplies I suggest to anyone new and would like some basic and fairly reasonable tools to groom your Australian Terrier.

The First Australian Terrier Puppy Cam!

Posted by Theresa Goiffon on Tuesday, June 7, 2011, In : Helpful Tips

This is not about "self promotion" or " puppy sales" that's not the intent in any way. All of our puppies have their forever homes, as it is, we have a hard time keeping up with the demand for one of our puppies.  Anyone with a computer, a webcam and a bit of computer sense could do what we have done.

Actually, truth be told, my 12 year old daughter Ellie did the research, picked the web stream provider and got it all set up. Thank you Ellie :)  Yup, that's the truth. But it does take...

It's not easy if you are a new Aussie owner trying to find a groomer that knows how to properly groom an Australian Terrier. I learned to groom by asking other aussie people, looking at many photos of properly groomed aussies and just practice.

When we were new to the breed, there wasn't anyone near us to help us with hands-on trainin...

Temperment Testing Your Puppy!

Posted by Theresa Goiffon on Wednesday, August 25, 2010, In : Helpful Tips

We are a very hands-on breeder and will always be.  For me, it's the only way to really know each and every one of our puppies.  This is important when making the decision on which puppy would be the best match for their forever family.

From the moment they are born, I take great effort in studying, observing, holding and just playing with our puppies to make sure I know them. It's not just about "how they look" which is important, especially when considering a show/breeding puppy, but wha...

Construct your own Whelping Box

Posted by Theresa Goiffon on Tuesday, August 24, 2010, In : Helpful Tips

When we decided to breed our first Australian Terrier we had many things to consider, not only the breeding pair, but where will they be whelped which led to looking for a whelping box.

We were fortunate that when we built our home a few years ago, we planned on breeding, so we have a really wonderful set up in the lower level of our home, which includes infloor heating, windows, a door to the exterior back yard, even a sink.

My husband, the handyman, decided to take on the responsiblity ...

Ring My Bell!

Posted by Theresa Goiffon on Friday, March 5, 2010, In : Helpful Tips

(Teddy, owned by Jan and Duane, Bred by Dunham Lake Aussies, pictured above at almost 1 year, was potty trained easily)

It would be nice to keep the guessing out of knowing when your 4-legged friend needs to go outside. Some dogs, like our Aussies, come up to us and stare at us, one has a certain bark he makes, yet another will sometimes jump up at us and when she does, you know it's time to run to the door.

Every pet owner eventually figures it out and looks for the signs from their dog, but ...

Potty Training Your Puppy Revisited

Posted by Theresa Goiffon on Friday, February 5, 2010, In : Helpful Tips

This is the second article I have written on this topic.  Having a litter of 5 Australian Terrier puppies right now I am reminded why I receive so many inquiries about how to train a puppy.  It's a lot of work potty training a puppy!

I have potty trained numerous puppies over the past 30 years including a few litters of Australian Terrier puppies. I have tried many different techniques. Here is what has worked for us and is working for us now with this new litter.

What's it like to show your dogs?

Posted by Theresa Goiffon on Tuesday, November 17, 2009, In : Helpful Tips

How'd you get started in showing dogs? What's it like to show dogs? I get asked these questions many times so let me tell you...

Our girls started showing our Aussies in 2007. We decided we have to start somewhere, so we jumped right into the ring (pretty much literally) and began showing our Aussies.

Our first show was in St. Cloud MN, we didn't have any idea what we were doing. The girls wore tee-shirts with their dogs name on them and wore jeans (that's NOT how it's done :^). We thou...

If you adopted a puppy from Dunham Lake Aussie's, your puppy began potty training at 6 weeks. Here are some tips on how to help you complete the training the training process.

The Australian Terriers we have raised and bred were easy to train  That's because we spend hours a day ...

Read up on the typical personality of an Aussie and really check out the Aussie breeder.  Like most people, we have similarities and differences. Find a breeder that meets your needs with a program that benefits the ...
